Create a Back in Stock automation in Seguno

Send automated restock alert emails when products become available using Seguno and Shopify Flow workflows.

The Back in Stock automation sends customers an automated email when an out-of-stock product becomes available for online purchase. This feature uses a Seguno email inside a Shopify Flow workflow and requires adding a Back in Stock app block to product pages before activating the workflow.

Note:

The Back in Stock automation is a paid feature in Seguno.

Requirements

  • A Shopify 2.0 (non-legacy) theme for easy installation.

  • Products must be available for online sales fulfillment.

  • The automation must be turned on in Shopify Flow and Seguno to send emails.

Warning:

Back in Stock is not available by default in legacy Shopify themes. Please contact Seguno support for assistance if you are not using a Shopify 2.0 theme.

Step one: Add the Back in Stock app block

Seguno collects restock alert requests using a Shopify theme app block. This block appears only when the product inventory is zero and hides automatically once inventory is one or greater.

To add the app block to product pages:

  1. Open the Shopify theme editor.

  2. Click the Home page drop-down menu

    1. Select Products

      1. Select Default product

  3. Under Product information, click Add block

  4. Under Apps, select Back in stock form by Seguno

Note:

If you have multiple product page templates, you will need to add the Back in Stock app block to each of them.

Optional: Add a newsletter signup checkbox to the Back in stock app block:

  1. Select the Back in stock form app block

  2. Select Show newsletter signup

Note:

Customers who select the checkbox are marked as subscribed for marketing emails. Customers who do not select the checkbox only receive the Back in Stock notification.

Step two: Create the automation in Shopify Flow

Once the app block is set up, it is time to customize and activate the automation. The automation template includes a Seguno marketing email action. This email utilizes Seguno email templates and editor.

All templates will automatically include a dynamic section that will populate the details and image of the item that is back in stock.

To create a Back in Stock automation:

  1. In Seguno, navigate to the Automations page.

  2. In the Back in stock section, click Create automation.

  3. Select Send a back in stock email by Seguno.

  4. Click on the marketing email action and select a template.

  5. Select a template, click Customize.

  6. Edit the email, then click Save and Exit

  7. Click Turn on workflow

Tip:

Seguno’s recommended template includes a dynamic product section that automatically inserts the product title, image, and link.

Exclude products from Back in stock

There may be instances where you want to avoid giving shoppers the option to register for Back in Stock notifications for a certain product. To exclude a product, add an exclusion tag. Seguno reads the tag and will not show the Back in Stock app block for the related products.

To exclude a product:

  1. Select the Back in stock form app block in the Shopify theme editor.

  2. Confirm or update the Product exclusion tag.

    1. Default tag: back-in-stock-excluded

  3. In Shopify Admin, open Products.

  4. Select the product to exclude.

  5. Add the exclusion tag and then Save.

Note:

Excluded products will not display the app block and cannot collect registrations.

Set an inventory threshold

The inventory threshold determines when the Back in Stock email sends. The default threshold is one available-online unit.

To update the threshold:

  1. Navigate to the Automations page.

  2. In the Back in Stock section, click Set threshold.

    set back in stock threshold
  3. Enter the inventory threshold value.

Note:

Threshold changes apply to all Back in Stock automations.
