How to use images in Seguno emails (size, format, and layout best practices)

Image size, format, and layout guidelines for using images in Seguno: Email Marketing across major email clients.

Updated this week

Use these best practices to ensure images display clearly and load efficiently in emails sent with Seguno: Email Marketing. This article explains recommended image sizes, file formats, and layout considerations across common email sections and clients.

Note:

These guidelines are based on best practices for all email clients. In some instances and with certain applications, images may be modified by the receiving inbox. For example, Outlook for Windows may have specific issues with image rendering and may ignore image metadata. If you need assistance with your images, please contact Seguno Support.

Images in email

Use these guidelines for images added to standard email sections.

Pixel width

  • Upload images at a minimum of two times the maximum display width.

  • Since the email canvas width in Seguno is 600px:

    • Full-width images: upload at least 1200px wide.

    • Multi-column sections: upload at least 600px wide.

Note:

Multi-column images may stack vertically on mobile devices. Uploading images at least 600px wide ensures clarity in stacked layouts.

File size

  • Keep images under 5MB to prevent blocking by email clients.

GIFs

  • Keep GIFS under 1.5MB to avoid frozen or partially loaded animations.

Background images

Background images fill in the available margin space behind the email content.

Pixel width

  • Upload background images at a minimum of 2000px wide.

File size

  • Keep background images under 1MB to maintain fast email load speeds.

Product images

Use these guidelines for images pulled from Shopify products or collections.

  • Upload product and collection images at a minimum of 600px by 600px.

  • Use consistent image dimensions for predictable cropping and clarity.

Crop image to fit setting

The Product list section includes a "Crop image to fit" option, which resizes images to 600px by 600px.

Common scenario

  • If this option is enabled and the image appears distorted, the original Shopify image has at least one dimension smaller than 600px.

To fix this issue

  • Upload a product or collection image to Shopify that is at least 600px on all sides.

Image corners

Seguno Email Marketing offers four corner styles for images.

  • Square (default)

  • Rounded

  • Pill

  • Arched

Note:

Image corner styling is not supported by all email clients, including Outlook, GMX, and Web.de. Unsupported clients will display square corners.

Image with text overlay section

This is the only email section where Seguno modified the image file.

  • Images may be altered or compressed to support text and button overlays.
