Domain warming is the process Seguno uses to protect a new sending domain’s reputation when sending email for the first time.
After domain authentication is complete, Seguno automatically warms your domain by gradually sending your first newsletter to engaged subscribers, optimizing deliverability and inbox placement.
What domain warming is
Domain warming establishes credibility for a new sending domain by gradually increasing email volume. Inbox providers use early engagement signals to decide whether future emails should be delivered to the inbox or filtered as spam.
Seguno performs domain warming automatically to help new senders build a positive reputation before sending at full volume.
How domain warming works in Seguno
When you schedule your first newsletter in Seguno Email Marketing, Seguno automatically manages the domain warming process.
The process works as follows:
Seguno evaluates available engagement data for your subscribers, including opens and orders.
Subscribers are ranked from most engaged to least engaged.
The newsletter is first sent to the 20 most engaged subscribers per inbox provider, such as Gmail, Apple Mail, and Yahoo.
Every four hours, the send volume doubles for each inbox provider.
This continues until the newsletter has been delivered to all subscribers.
This gradual increase helps inbox providers recognize your domain as a legitimate sender.
How long domain warming takes
The duration of domain warming depends on your total subscriber count. For most stores, the process takes between two and four days.
During the warmup, a banner appears at the top of the Newsletter details page showing:
Estimated completion time
Current progress of the warming process
Tips for successful domain warming
Follow these best practices when sending your first newsletter:
Send to your full subscriber list:
Send your first newsletter to your entire subscriber list. Large, sudden increases in send volume between newsletters can trigger spam filtering by inbox providers.
Do not schedule additional newsletters
Avoid scheduling other newsletters during the domain warming process. Wait at least four hours after warmup completes before scheduling another send.
Use a strong subject line and preview text
High open and click rates signal positive engagement. Choose subject line and preview text combinations that encourage subscribers to open the email.
Consider promoting a discount
Discounts can increase engagement, which helps establish your credibility as a sender.
Test the newsletter before sending
Check for broken images, typos, and invalid links to avoid negative engagement signals.
Plan for time-sensitive promotions
Subscribers receive the newsletter at different times during warmup. If you include a promotion, ensure it remains valid for at least seven to ten days after the send begins.
