How to customize and add a discount to the Welcome Automation in Seguno Email Marketing

Create a Welcome Automation in Seguno Email Marketing and add a Shopify discount to encourage new subscribers to make their first purchase.

Seguno Email Marketing includes a pre-built Welcome Automation that sends emails when a new subscriber joins your list. Merchants use this automation to introduce their brand, set email expectations, and encourage a first purchase with a discount.

This guide explains how to customize the Welcome Automation and add a Shopify discount code to the automation emails.


Understanding the Welcome automation series

The Welcome automation in Seguno: Email Marketing includes a three-email series. Merchants can enable a single email or activate multiple emails, depending on the welcome strategy.

To enable or disable an email in the series:

  1. Open Seguno Email Marketing.

  2. Click Automations.

  3. Click Welcome under Subscriber activity automations.

  4. Toggle the email card on or off.

Each email in the series can include its own content and discount configuration.

Note:

An Automation series is a premium feature that requires an active trial or subscription to Seguno Email Marketing for use.


Customize the Welcome automation

To edit the content of an email in the Welcome Automation:

  1. Open Seguno Email Marketing in the Shopify admin.

  2. Click Automations.

  3. Locate Subscriber activity automations.

  4. Click Welcome.

  5. Click Actions on the email card.

  6. Select Customize.

  7. Edit the email content in the editor.

  8. Click Save.

  9. Click the X or the Escape key.


Activate the Welcome Automation

The automation must be enabled before new subscribers can receive the emails.

  1. Open Seguno Email Marketing.

  2. Click Automations.

  3. Locate Subscriber activity automations.

  4. Click Welcome.

  5. Locate the Welcome automation summary card.

  6. Toggle the automation on.


Edit the Start and End cards

Start card

The Start card defines the event that begins the automation. For the Welcome Automation, the event occurs when a contact becomes a new subscriber.

  1. Open the Welcome Automation.

  2. Click Edit on the Start card.

  3. Review the sending options.

  4. Click Save if changes are made.

End card

The End card defines when the automation stops sending emails to a subscriber.

  1. Open the Welcome Automation.

  2. Click Edit on the End card.

  3. Review the available end criteria.

  4. Click Save.


Add a discount to the Welcome Automation

Before adding a discount to an automation email, create the discount in Shopify.

Create the Shopify discount

  1. Open the Shopify admin.

  2. Click Discounts.

  3. Click Create discount.

  4. Select the discount type.

    1. Make sure that the discount is not an automatic discount.

  5. Enter the discount details.

  6. Click Save.

Assign the discount in Seguno

  1. Open Seguno Email Marketing.

  2. Click Automations.

  3. Click Welcome.

  4. Click Actions on the email card.

  5. Select Edit discount.

  6. Select one of the following options:

    1. Share the same code with all recipients

    2. Generate a unique code for each recipient

  7. Enter the discount title that was created in Shopify.

  8. Click Save.

Note:

If the Welcome Automation contains multiple emails, assign the discount to each email individually.

If the same discount is used across multiple emails, each subscriber will receive the same unique code throughout the series. The expiration date will be based on when the code was first delivered.

Warning:

Codes are only deleted if they remain unused after the end date. To prevent the same code from being used multiple times, avoid setting an end date and instead set a usage limit in Shopify.


Example

A skincare merchant uses the Welcome Automation to send a three-email series:

  • Email one: Introduces the brand and includes a 10% discount.

  • Email two: Highlights best-selling products.

  • Email three: Reminds the subscriber to use the discount before it expires.

Adding the discount in the first email encourages new subscribers to make their first purchase soon after joining the list.

Can each email in the Welcome automation have a different discount?

  • Yes. Each email card in the automation can be configured with a different Shopify discount.

Can I use the same discount across all emails in the series?

  • Yes. If the same discount is used across multiple emails, each subscriber will receive their same unique code throughout the automation.

Do I need to create the discount in Seguno?

  • No. Discounts must be created in Shopify first and then referenced in Seguno Email Marketing.

When does the Welcome automation trigger?

  • The Welcome automation triggers immediately when a contact becomes a new subscriber.

What happens if the automation is turned off?

  • If the automation is disabled, new subscriber events will not trigger the automation.
