How to use Rivo Loyalty data in Seguno Email Marketing

Use Rivo loyalty metafields to call out customers' points balance, VIP tier, and status in targeted campaigns in Seguno Email Marketing.

Rivo syncs loyalty data to Shopify customer metafields, which Shopify's customer page can use to segment subscribers, and then Seguno Email Marketing can use to send personalized campaigns, displaying customer loyalty information.

Use this integration to reach customers based on their points balance, VIP tier, loyalty status, or membership level, without manually creating separate lists.

Requirements

To use Rivo data in Seguno: Email Marketing, you need:

  • A Rivo account on the Scale or Plus plan (metafield sync is not available on the Free plan)

  • Rivo is installed and active on your Shopify store

  • Seguno Email Marketing is installed on your Shopify store

  • Shopify Metafields enabled in Rivo's developer settings (Settings > Shopify Metafields & Tags)

What data can be used by Seguno

When Customer Metafields (V2) is enabled in Rivo, it writes individual customer fields to Shopify. These can be used for segmentation in Shopify and personalization in Seguno Email Marketing.

The fields available depend on which Rivo features you have active:

Email use cases

The following are common ways merchants use Rivo data with Seguno Email Marketing.

Loyalty status campaigns

Segment customers by their loyalty_status metafield to separate active members from inactive ones. Send re-engagement campaigns to lapsed members, or reward active members with a points multiplier offer.

Points balance promotions

Segment by the points_balance metafield to identify customers who have accumulated points but haven't yet redeemed. Send a targeted campaign that reminds them of their balance and highlights available rewards. This is especially effective before a sale or seasonal event.

VIP tier-based offers

Use the "Rivo VIP Tier: [Tier Name]" customer tag to create a segment for each VIP tier. Send each tier a different discount or perk, with higher tiers receiving better offers. This reinforces the value of staying engaged with your loyalty program.

Tier upgrade motivation

Segment customers near a tier threshold by their points_balance, and send an email showing what perks await at the next tier, with a clear spending goal to reach it, using the metafield liquid tags in newsletters and automations. This drives incremental purchases from customers who are close to leveling up.

Tier-specific onboarding

When a customer reaches a new VIP tier (detected via Shopify Flow), send a welcome email explaining the perks they've just unlocked. Set this up as an automation in Seguno Email Marketing triggered by the Flow tier-change event.

Membership-based campaigns

If you use Rivo's paid membership feature, segment by the membership_tier metafield on Shopify's customer page then use Seguno Email Marketing to send exclusive content, early access announcements, or renewal reminders to active members.

Common errors

Issue

Cause

Solution

Rivo metafields are not appearing in the segment build

Customer metafields are not enabled in Rivo settings, or the metafields haven't synced yet

Enable customer metafields in Rivo Settings > Shopify Metafields & Tags; run Sync Store to backfill existing customers

Segment shows no results

Rivo plan doesn't include metafield sync, or customers don't yet have values for the selected field

Confirm your Rivo plan includes metafields (Scale or Plus); verify the relevant Rivo feature (e.g., Points program) is active

VIP Tier metafield not visible

V2 metafields do not include a standalone vip_tier field by default

Use VIP tier customer tags ("Rivo VIP Tier: [Tier Name]") for segmentation, or enable legacy JSON metafield for backward-compatible access

Automation not triggering on tier change

Shopify Flow connection not configured

Set up a Shopify Flow workflow connecting the Rivo tier-change trigger to a Seguno Email Marketing automation

FAQs

Does Seguno Email Marketing connect directly to Rivo?

  • No. Seguno Email Marketing reads Rivo data through Shopify customer metafields and customer tags. There is no direct API connection between the two apps. Rivo must be configured to sync metafields to Shopify first.

Which Rivo plans support metafield sync?

  • Customer metafield sync is available on Rivo's Scale and Plus plans. It is not available on the Free plan.

Can I segment by VIP tier?

  • Yes, but not via a dedicated VIP tier metafield in Rivo's V2 format. The recommended approach is to enable VIP tier tagging in Rivo, which writes a Shopify customer tag in the format "Rivo VIP Tier: [Tier Name]". This tag can be used to create a customer segment for use in Seguno Email Marketing for a targeted newsletter or campaign.

Can I segment by point balance?

  • Yes. When your Rivo Points program is active, and Customer Metafields is enabled, the points_balance field is synced to Shopify as an individual customer metafield and can be used as a segment filter.

Can I send emails automatically when a customer reaches a new tier?

  • Yes. Use Shopify Flow to detect a tier change from Rivo (using the "Customer moved up a tier" or "Customer VIP Tier Updated" trigger) and trigger a Seguno: Email Marketing automation. See the Shopify Flow section above for details.

Do point transaction history and redemption events sync to Seguno?

  • No. Rivo only syncs current customer-level values (such as point balance and loyalty status) to Shopify metafields. Individual earn-and-redeem events are not written as separate metafields and are not available for segmentation.
