OptiMonk is an AI-powered popup builder that lets you run quizzes, surveys, and preference captures on your Shopify storefront. When a visitor responds, OptiMonk saves their answers as tags on their Shopify customer profile.
Seguno Email Marketing reads those tags directly from Shopify, so you can segment and personalize email campaigns based on what customers told you. No connectors or data syncing are required.
Requirements
To use OptiMonk data in Seguno Email Marketing, you need:
OptiMonk installed and active on your Shopify store
A popup configured to save quiz or survey responses as Shopify customer tags
To learn how to set this up, see OptiMonk's Shopify integration documentation
Seguno Email Marketing installed on your Shopify store
Note:
This integration works through Shopify customer tags. Only subscribers who complete an OptiMonk popup after the Shopify tag action is active will receive a tag. Tags are not applied retroactively to existing customers.
How OptiMonk data can be used by Seguno
OptiMonk can be configured to write a customer's quiz or survey response directly to their Shopify customer profile as a tag. When a customer submits a response, that tag is automatically saved to their Shopify customer profile.
Seguno Email Marketing reads customer tags from Shopify natively. Any tag OptiMonk writes becomes available as a filter when building customer segments, and those segments can be used to target newsletters and automations in Seguno Email Marketing.
Tip:
Use a consistent tag prefix across all OptiMonk campaigns (for example, pref:skincare or intent:gift) to keep OptiMonk tags easy to identify and filter when building segments.
Email use cases
The following are common ways merchants use OptiMonk data with Seguno Email Marketing.
Product launch targeting
When you release a new product, email only the subscribers whose quiz responses match that product category. For example, a skincare store could target subscribers tagged pref:anti-aging with a new serum launch, so the campaign reaches the people most likely to want it.
Segment by shopping intent
Subscribers who indicated they are shopping for a gift can receive gift guides and bundles. Subscribers shopping for themselves can receive replenishment reminders or loyalty offers. Create a separate segment for each intent tag and send each group a tailored campaign using Seguno Email Marketing.
Product recommendations based on quiz answers
Use the preferences customers shared through an OptiMonk product-recommendation quiz to send them only the products relevant to their answers. A subscriber tagged skin-type:dry receives moisturizer recommendations; one tagged skin-type:oily receives mattifying products.
Common errors
Issue | Cause | Solution |
Subscribers are not appearing in the tag-based segment | The OptiMonk popup was not yet live when the customer visited, or the Shopify tag action was not enabled | Confirm the popup is published and the Shopify tag action is active; only future completions will receive the tag |
Tag values in Shopify do not match what OptiMonk writes | Tag naming in OptiMonk was changed after the segment was created | Update the segment filter on Shopify's Customer Segment page to match the current tag exactly. |
Segment shows zero subscribers | No subscribers have completed the popup yet, or the tag filter value contains a typo | Verify the tag against a Shopify customer profile; check for capitalization or spacing differences |
Note:
Customer tags are only applied to new subscribers. Existing Shopify contacts who completed the popup before this feature was enabled will not receive a tag.
FAQs
Does Seguno Email Marketing connect directly to OptiMonk?
No. Seguno Email Marketing reads data stored in Shopify customer records. OptiMonk writes quiz and survey responses to those records as customer tags when a visitor completes a popup.
Does this integration require Shopify Flow?
No. OptiMonk writes tags directly to the Shopify customer profile, and Seguno Email Marketing reads customer tags and segments from Shopify. No Shopify Flow automation is required.
Can I use multiple OptiMonk tags in a single Seguno Email Marketing segment?
Yes. You can combine multiple tag filters within a single segment to build a more specific audience.
Will subscribers who completed a popup before I enabled the Shopify tag action receive a tag?
No. Tags are only applied when a customer completes a popup after the Shopify tag action is active. Previous submissions are not retroactively tagged.
