Seguno: Email Marketing uses the Shopify customer “accepts marketing” status to determine who can receive marketing emails. To import subscribers into Seguno, first import them as subscribed customers in Shopify.
If migrating from another email marketing platform, import contacts into Shopify or use a supported integration such as Klaviyo or Mailchimp.
Prepare your list for import
Before importing subscribers into Shopify, confirm consent, clean your list, and properly organize your contacts.
Confirm subscription source
Only import contacts who opted in to receive marketing from your current store.
Do not import:
Contacts from a previous brand that did not explicitly opt in to the current brand
Purchased or rented lists
Contacts without verifiable opt-in
Warning:
Importing contacts without proper consent can increase spam complaints and damage deliverability.
Confirm recent engagement
Import subscribers who have engaged with your emails within the last six months, depending on your sending frequency.
Inactive or unengaged contacts increase bounce rates and spam filtering.
Clean bounced and inactive contacts
Before exporting from your previous provider:
Identify hard bounces
Identify repeated soft bounces
Identify subscribers with no opens or clicks in the last six months
Either:
Mark those contacts as unsubscribed before export
or
Export them in a separate file and set them as unsubscribed in Shopify
Tag customers during import
If subscribers came from different sources (POS, popups, ads), add tags during the import. Tags allow segmentation inside Seguno Email Marketing for more relevant campaigns and automations.
Tip:
When rebranding, send an announcement-style newsletter that references both the old and new brands in the subject line and preheader text (e.g., "MP Boutique is now Madison Paige.").
Import subscribers into Shopify
Seguno determines subscriber eligibility based on Shopify’s “accepts marketing” setting.
To import subscribers:
Download Shopify's customer import template from Shopify.
Copy subscriber data into the template.
In the Accepts Marketing column, enter "yes" for subscribed customers.
In the Shopify Admin, click Customers.
Click Import.
Click Add file and select your CSV file.
Click Import customers.
Note:
An email address can only exist once per Shopify Store
If a customer already exists, select the overwrite option during import to update the marketing status.
Sync subscribers from Klaviyo
Use the Klaviyo integration to sync subscribers into Shopify without disrupting existing automations.
This connection transfers:
Email

Warning:
Deleting a contact in Klaviyo triggers an unsubscribe in Shopify. Before deleting contacts in Klaviyo, export your list and disconnect the integration in Seguno settings.
Sync subscribers from Mailchimp
Use the Mailchimp integration to transfer subscribers into Shopify while maintaining compliance.
This connection transfers:
Email
First name
Last name
