Seguno Email Marketing lets you send newsletters in different languages by translating default email terms and targeting subscribers based on their Shopify language preference. This workflow is ideal for stores that support multiple Shopify languages and want to deliver localized newsletters without maintaining separate accounts.
Supported languages
Seguno currently supports translation of default newsletter terms in the following languages:
Albanian | Chinese (Simplified) | Chinese (Traditional) | Croatian | Czech |
Danish | Dutch | English (Default) | Finnish | French |
German | Greek | Hungarian | Indonesian | Italian |
Japanese | Korean | Lithuanian | Norwegian (Bokmål) | Polish |
Spanish | Swedish | Thai | Turkish | Vietnamese |
Please contact Seguno Support if you need support for a different language.
Note:
This feature is currently limited to translating the default terms of your newsletters, with some exciting updates planned to support translating product details, multi-currency pricing, and automations.
Set up multiple languages in Shopify
Shopify must be configured to support multiple languages before Seguno can record language preferences.
Steps to add a language to your Shopify store:
From your Shopify admin, go to Settings.
Select Languages.
Click Add language.
Publish the language once translation is complete.
Tip:
Shopify's Translate & Adapt and Geolocation apps can help translate storefront content and guide your customers to their preferred language. Third-party alternatives may also be available.
Capture language preferences and create segments
When a customer subscribes, Shopify records the store language and saves it to the customer profile as their preferred language. Seguno uses this value for segmentation.
Most theme-based email signup forms record language automatically.
All Seguno-powered popups and forms record language preferences.
Some third-party signup tools may not capture language data.
Tip:
Test email signups in each Shopify language to confirm preferences are recorded correctly.
Create language-based customer segments
You must create Shopify customer segments for each language you plan to email.
From your Shopify admin, go to Customers
Create a new segment.
Use the
customer_languageattribute with a language code.

Add and edit languages in Seguno
Adding a language in Seguno translates default email elements such as unsubscribe text, discount descriptions, and footer terms.
Steps to add a language to Seguno:
In Seguno, go to Settings.
In the Localization section, click Add language.
Edit translated terms:
In Seguno Email Marketing, go to Settings.
In Localization, click Edit languages.
Select a language from the dropdown.
Update the text and click Save
Note:
Product details and currency values are not translated at this time.
Build and send a language-specific newsletter
When you create a multilingual newsletter in your account, you can now choose which language to use for common terms.
Steps to create a language-specific newsletter
Create a new newsletter in Seguno: Email Marketing.
Select a language other than your default for common terms.
Customize the content as needed.
Note:
Selecting a non-default language removes the newsletter from your shared theme. Header and footer changes will only apply to this email.
Schedule and send
When scheduling, select the matching language-based customer segment.
Review recipients carefully before sending
Alternative: Use an exclusion segment to target all subscribers except a specific language group.
Repeat the previous steps for as many languages as you want to send the newsletter in.
Warning:
When using integrated Product or Collection sections, we recommend hiding product titles and prices if your account is not set to the primary language. These sections are not currently translated, which could lead to emails containing multiple languages.
