How Seguno Email Marketing integrates with Shopify data

Learn how Seguno Email Marketing uses Shopify customer, order, product, and discount data for newsletters and automations.

Seguno Email Marketing is built only for Shopify and integrates directly with your Shopify data. Customer, order, product, and discount information stays synced inside the Shopify admin.

This article explains which Shopify data Seguno Email Marketing uses and how it powers newsletters and automations.

Seguno Co-founder and CEO Chris Geiss discusses why your Shopify data needs to be your source of truth.

Customers and subscribers

Seguno Email Marketing uses Shopify customer records to manage subscribers. A subscriber is a Shopify customer whose Email subscription status is Subscribed.

Seguno doesn't keep a separate contact database, so all subscriber data syncs directly from Shopify.

To check a customer's subscription status in Shopify:

  1. In the Shopify admin, Click Customers.

  2. Select a customer record.

  3. Review the Email subscription status field.

Only customers marked as Subscribed can receive marketing email.

Note:

Seguno Email Marketing automatically filters for Email subscription status when it sends a campaign or automation email. This filter applies even if a Shopify segment includes unsubscribed customers.

Automatic filtering is the most common reason the final recipient count is lower than the total shown in a Shopify segment.

Shopify segments

Seguno Email Marketing uses Shopify Segments to target or exclude specific groups of subscribers when you send an email.

Examples of segment usage:

To send a newsletter to a Shopify segment::

  1. Select the Shopify segment you want to send to.

  2. Review the final recipient count before you send. Seguno Email Marketing automatically includes only Subscribed customers.

Orders and automation triggers

Seguno Email Marketing uses Shopify order data to trigger automations and to personalize email content.

Seguno accesses the following order fields:

  • Line items

  • Order date

  • Fulfillment status

  • Fulfillment date

These fields power the following commerce automations:

  • Abandoned Checkout

  • First Purchase

  • Repeat Purchaser (second purchase)

  • Review Request (eligible completed order)

  • Lapsed Purchaser (no recent purchases after at least one prior order)

Note:

Order line item data is only accessible at the time the automation is triggered. Newsletters (one-time campaigns) cannot include previous order line item data.

Products in emails

Seguno Email Marketing uses Shopify product data to fill product sections in newsletters and automations.

By default, Seguno shows only in-stock products. If a product has variants, Seguno uses the first in-stock variant.

Product sections that use Shopify data:

  • Featured product

  • Product list

  • Featured collection

  • Collection list

Available product attributes:

  • Title (required)

  • Image

  • Vendor

  • Price

  • Compare-at price

  • Add to cart link

  • View product link (required)

  • Description

Shopify discounts

Seguno Email Marketing uses your Shopify discounts to send discount codes in emails. You set up every discount in Shopify.

Shopify controls each discount's:

  • Type

  • Value

  • Requirements

  • Eligibility

  • Expiration date

When a subscriber clicks a link in an email that contains a Shopify discount, the discount applies automatically at checkout if the discount settings allow it.

Note:

Seguno Email Marketing doesn't create or manage Shopify discount rules. Set up all discount logic in Shopify before you use it in an email.

Shopify marketing dashboard

Seguno Email Marketing integrates with the Shopify Growth dashboard.

From the dashboard, you can:

- Review newsletter performance

- Review automation reporting
