Understand Spam Protect and list cleaning

Learn how Spam Protect cleans invalid or fake email addresses to improve deliverability in Seguno Email Marketing.

Spam Protect is a list-cleaning tool in Seguno: Email Marketing that automatically unsubscribes invalid or fake email addresses. Use Spam Protect to reduce bounces and spam complaints before sending newsletters to existing subscribers.

Spam Protect protects sender reputation by removing risky email addresses that could harm deliverability.

How Spam Protect works

Spam Protect monitors the subscriber list and automatically unsubscribes:

  • Invalid email addresses that would result in a bounce

  • Fake signups submitted by bots or automated scripts

  • Compromised email addresses are likely to generate spam complaints

Even a small number of bounces or complaints can reduce inbox placement. Spam Protect improves deliverability by proactively cleaning these addresses.

Spam Protect also prevents flagged email addresses from entering the Welcome automation to protect performance.

Note:

Spam Protect must be activated before sending newsletters to existing subscribers.

Activate Spam Protect

When activating Spam Protect, Seguno immediately cleans existing subscribers and continues monitoring new signups.

  1. Review the banner at the top of the app showing the number of email addresses to be cleaned.

    activate spam protect
  2. Click Activate.

  3. Wait for the banner to display that list cleaning is complete.

Once complete, newsletters can be sent to existing subscribers.

New subscribers flagged as invalid or risky will be automatically unsubscribed going forward.

Warning:

Cleaned subscribers will not receive Welcome automation emails.

Which subscribers are cleaned

Spam Protect targets:

  • Invalid email addresses

  • Fake signups submitted through website forms

  • Spambot-generated submissions

Spambots are automated computer programs that scan websites and submit forms with random or stolen email addresses.

What if a real subscriber is cleaned?

In rare cases, a legitimate email address may be flagged.

If a customer reports not receiving the Welcome automation:

  2. Check for the tag cleaned-email-spam-protect.

Seguno Support can mark the address as allowed. Spam Protect will retain this exception for future sends.
