Discount codes created in Shopify can be automatically shared in Seguno emails to apply promotions when subscribers click links. You can share a single code with all recipients or generate a unique code for each subscriber, which is useful for personalized offers and enhanced tracking.
Create Shopify discount codes
In your Shopify admin, go to Discounts and create an active discount code.
Save the discount in Shopify before adding it to Seguno emails.
Tips
When adding the discount in Seguno, search by discount name.
All pricing rules from Shopify will show in the email banners or callout.
For automations, avoid setting an end date so all subscribers can trigger it at different times.
Note: Seguno will only share discount codes and does not use Shopify's automatic discounts. To learn more about the difference between the two types of discounts, refer to the Shopify documentation.
Add a discount to a newsletter
Once you've created the discount in Shopify, you can add it to any Seguno email.
Steps to include a discount in a new newsletter:
Open Newsletters.
Click Create Newsletter.
Choose a template.
In the Discount section, choose:
Share the same code with all recipients, or
Generate a unique code for each recipient.
Enter the Shopify discount name.
Confirm the checkmark, this shows the code is active.
Steps to add a discount to an existing draft:
Open Newsletters.
Open the newsletter draft.
In Discount, click Edit.
Choose:
Share the same code with all recipients, or
Generate a unique code for each recipient.
Click Save.
Add a discount to an automation
For multi-email automations, a discount can be added to the entire series or individual emails. If there are multiple emails in the automation, the discount will need to be assigned to each email in the series. You can choose to offer the same discount or different discounts per email.
Steps to add a discount to an automation email:
Go to Automations
Choose the automation to which you would like to add a discount.
In the email card, select the Actions dropdown.
Select Edit discount.
Choose:
Share the same code with all recipients, or
Generate a unique code for each recipient.
Enter the discount name.
Click Save.
With automations, Seguno adds more power to unique codes by allowing you to expire unused codes to create a sense of urgency with your recipients. The Seguno-applied expiration date will update as the subscriber moves through the series.
Note: If the same discount is included in multiple emails in a series, each recipient's unique code will remain the same throughout the series, and the discount expiration date will be based on when that code was first delivered to the recipient.
Warning: Codes are only deleted if they are not used prior to the end date. To avoid codes being used multiple times, do not set an end date but set a usage limit on the Discount in your Shopify admin.
How discounts appear in emails
When assigned, Seguno will display discount information and automatically apply the code via links in your email.
Discount banner
Shown below the email header by default.
If eligibility rules exist, a second banner above the footer will show them.
For extra disclaimers, use the Footer > Company policies text section.
Discount callout section
Highlights the discount with details and a call-to-action button.
Note: Discount descriptions update automatically from Shopify discount terms.
To customize wording, go to Settings > Localization > Edit languages. Updates made to this verbiage will be the default verbiage for all Seguno emails.
How to hide the discount banner
Open the Editor.
Add the Discount callout section.
Uncheck the Show discount banner.
Use unique discount codes
When creating a discount, you have the option to:
Share the same code with all recipients or
One code for everyone.
Generate a unique code for each recipient
Seguno generates a 6-character alphanumeric code per subscriber.
Unique codes avoid real words and report under the same Shopify discount name.
Note: Unique codes sent in test emails won’t work to avoid reporting inaccuracies.
How to find active discount codes for a subscriber
Once a code has been sent to your subscribers through a Seguno email, it will be listed in their subscriber profile as long as it is active.
In Shopify, go to Customers.
Search and open the subscriber's customer profile.
Click the More Actions dropdown.
Select View subscriber profile.
In the Recent discounts card, view all active discounts.
