The integration between Seguno and Shopify enables you to use your Shopify segments to send a newsletter to specific customers. Segments are used to categorize customers who have similar characteristics or have taken the same actions.
Segment customers in Shopify
Segments apply filters to your Customers to create a dynamic group. As new customers qualify for the filters, they'll be automatically added to the segment.
Segments can leverage data from both the customer record and order history. If your shop has made over 100 sales, Shopify's Predicted Spend Tiers will be available for your segment filters. Use Shopify's reference guide for a complete walk-through of all available segment filters.
To view Shopify segment templates:
Note: When creating a segment in Shopify, you do not need to add a filter for [email_subscription_status = 'SUBSCRIBED']. Seguno will only send to customers who have accepted marketing. However, not including the subscription status filter may result in your delivered email count being different from the total segment count.
Seguno Email Marketing filters and metafields
Using the following metafields to generate customer segments based on their interactions with your newsletters.
These are updated after each send in near real time.
seguno.last_sent_date
The last date a subscriber received an email from Seguno Email
seguno.last_open_date
The last date a subscriber opened an email from Seguno Email
seguno.last_click_date
The last date a subscriber clicked an email from Seguno Email
seguno.sends_since_last_open
The total count of newsletters sent to that subscriber since they opened an email from Seguno Email (The larger the number, the more newsletters they have not opened.)
seguno.sends_since_last_click
The total number of newsletters sent to that subscriber since they clicked an email from Seguno Email (The larger the number, the more newsletters they have not clicked)
To find these metafield filters:
From your Shopify admin, go to Customers

Targeting based on previous email interactions
Targeting by activity in Seguno enables you to send newsletters and automations to customers based on their engagement with specific emails, such as whether they’ve received, opened, clicked, or converted.
This segmentation method is fixed and built directly into Seguno, linked to specific newsletters or automations you have sent.
Using previous engagement as a filter, you can follow up more precisely, send more relevant messages, and improve conversions through targeted outreach based on how subscribers interacted with specific previously-sent emails
When creating your recipient list, you can include or exclude contacts based on their previous email activity by selecting recently sent newsletters and/or automations. For each selected send, you can refine the targeting by activity type:
Received – The email was successfully delivered.
Opened – The contact opened the email.
Clicked – The contact clicked a link in the email.
Converted – The contact completed a purchase after engaging with the email.
Each action is evaluated independently:
Targeting contacts who opened does not exclude those who may have also clicked or converted, unless you add those exclusions.
To specifically target people who only opened, you would exclude those who clicked and converted.
Example use cases:
Send a reminder to customers who opened an email but didn’t click.
Thank customers who clicked a product link but didn’t make a purchase.
Exclude recipients who have already engaged with a specific announcement.
Send an email to your targeted segment in Seguno
Choosing segments to include or exclude when sending an email in Seguno is done by editing the Recipients.
To send an email using segments:
From the Newsletter detail page, click Edit in the Recipients section.
To send the email to specific segments, select Subscribers within specific segments.
Select one or multiple segments from the search bar.
To exclude specific segments from receiving the email, select Exclude customers within specific segments.
Select one or multiple segments from the search bar.
Click Save.
Note: If a customer is part of multiple activity targeting, Seguno will only email that customer once. If a customer is included in both the intended to receive the email and an excluded activity, Seguno will not send the email to that customer.
Default Exclusion Segments
Choose segments to exclude when sending any email in Seguno automatically.
To set a Default exclusion segment:
Create the exclusion segment
Navigate to the Settings page in Seguno Email
Scroll down to the Excluded recipients
Select one or multiple segments from the search bar
Click Save.
This process automatically adds the segments to the exclusions list for the recipients of the newsletter and works for creating new newsletters and duplicating existing ones.
Carry recipients to duplicate newsletters
When duplicating a sent newsletter, carry the newsletter's recipients, included and excluded segments, to the new newsletter.
To carry over previous recipients to the duplicated newsletter:
Select the sent newsletter you'd like to duplicate
Click Actions, then Duplicate
Fill out the required boxes, then check the box labeled "Include recipients"
This action will overrule any Default exclusion settings, so they will not apply to the duplicate newsletter.
