Understand email metrics and reporting in Seguno Email Marketing

Learn how Seguno calculates email metrics, revenue attribution, and deliverability stats to measure performance accurately.

Email metrics in Seguno Email Marketing show how subscribers interact with campaigns and automations, how much revenue email generates, and how well emails reach inboxes.

Use reporting data to measure performance, diagnose deliverability issues, and improve conversion rates.

Performance metrics

Performance metrics measure how subscribers interact with a campaign or automation and how much revenue it generates.

Open rate

  • The percentage of delivered emails that were opened.

Formula:

Open rate = (Unique opens ÷ Delivered emails) × 100

Note:

Open tracking depends on image loading and privacy protections from inbox providers. Open rate may be inflated or underreported depending on the subscriber’s email client.

Click rate

  • The percentage of delivered emails that received at least one click on a tracked link. This does not include clicks on the unsubscribe link.

Formula:

Click rate = (Unique clicks ÷ Delivered emails) × 100

Sales

  • The total revenue and number of orders attributed to an email.

Seguno records a sale when a subscriber:

  1. Clicks a link in a Seguno email.

  2. Places an order within five days of that click.

If a subscriber clicks multiple emails within five days, Seguno attributes revenue to the most recently clicked email.

Engagement metrics

Engagement metrics measure purchase behavior and customer value from email traffic.

Conversion rate

  • The percentage of delivered emails that resulted in a purchase attributed to email marketing.

Formula:

Conversion rate = (Attributed orders ÷ Delivered emails) × 100

Average order value

  • The average dollar amount per order attributed to email marketing.

Formula:

Average order value = Email-attributed revenue ÷ Attributed orders

Average products sold

  • The average number of products included in each attributed order.

First-time customers

  • The number of subscribers who placed their first order with the store after clicking an email.

Deliverability metrics

Deliverability metrics indicate how successfully emails reach inbox providers.

Delivery rate

  • The percentage of sent emails accepted by inbox providers and not returned as a hard or soft bounce.

Formula:

Delivery rate = (Delivered emails ÷ Sent emails) × 100

Note:

Delivery rate does not guarantee inbox placement. It only confirms that the receiving server accepted the message.

Unsubscribe rate

  • The percentage of delivered emails where subscribers opted out by clicking:

    • The unsubscribe link in the footer

    • The optional unsubscribe link at the top of the email

    • An inbox provider’s built-in unsubscribe link

An unsubscribe rate around one percent is generally acceptable.

Tip:

Remove inactive subscribers regularly. Inactive contacts can lower open rates and harm deliverability. Seguno’s Spam Protect system automatically unsubscribes bots and fake email addresses.

Complaint rate

  • Also called spam complaint rate. The percentage of delivered emails marked as spam by recipients.

An acceptable complaint rate is 0.1 percent or lower, or one complaint per 1,000 emails sent.

Bounce rate

  • The percentage of sent emails that could not be delivered.

    • Hard bounce: Permanent failure (invalid email address).

    • Soft bounce: Temporary failure (mailbox full, server issue).

Keep bounce rate at five percent or lower to maintain good deliverability status.

How email revenue is calculated

Seguno uses click-based attribution with a five-day conversion window.

An order counts as email revenue when:

  1. A subscriber clicks a link in a Seguno email.

  2. The subscriber places an order within five days of the click.

Attribution rules:

  • Revenue is assigned to the most recently clicked email within the five-day window.

  • A subscriber can generate multiple conversions from a single email if multiple purchases occur within 5 days.

  • Seguno does not use partial attribution models.

Why revenue may differ from other platforms

Different email providers may:

  • Use open-based attribution instead of click-based attribution

  • Use longer or shorter attribution windows

  • Apply partial or multi-touch attribution models

Compare attribution settings in the previous provider to ensure a like-for-like comparison.

How Seguno tracks orders without cookies or scripts

Seguno integrates directly with Shopify.

Seguno links a customer's most recent email click activity with Shopify order data inside the Shopify admin. Shopify remains the source of truth for order data.

This approach:

  • Does not reply on tracking scripts or cookies

  • Supports cross-device conversions

  • Helps maintain site speed

Can conversion settings be configured?

Seguno follows industry best practices using click-based attribution and a five-day window.

If a store requires a different attribution model or conversion window, contact Seguno Support to discuss specific needs.

FAQs

How accurate is Seguno’s email revenue tracking?

  • Seguno uses click-based attribution and Shopify order data. Minor differences may occur compared to other analytics platforms that use different attribution models.

Why do open rates look inconsistent?

  • Inbox privacy features can pre-load tracking pixels or block images, which may impact open tracking accuracy.

Can one subscriber generate multiple conversions from the same email?

  • Yes. If the subscriber places multiple orders within five days of clicking the email, each order is attributed to that email.
